Profile of MCS
Introduction
MCS was founded in 1985. Its initial business activity was to provide the Services of Registrars to Initial Public Offerings (IPO’s), Registrar and Transfer Agents to companies and to handle data processing operations. MCS made its own IPO in 1988 and is currently listed on the Mumbai Stock Exchange.
Business Divisions
There are 3 business divisions at MCS as follows:
1. Share Registry Services
The services provided are as follows:
- Registrars to IPO’s and Secondary Issues
- Registrars and Security Transfer Agents
- Handling Mutual Fund Schemes
MCS has a market share of around 25% in India for the above business and handles share transfer work for over 140 Corporates and Mutual Fund, comprising an investor base of around 15 million individuals.
2. Airline Billing Services
MCS is the Data Processing Center (DPC) for all Airlines for international traffic routed through accredited IATA Travel Agents in India. India is served by 36 International Airlines and there are roughly 1,200 accredited IATA Agents serving international passengers. MCS is the sole DPC, which receives flight coupons from the Travel Agents, computerize them and prepares fortnightly billing statements for each Airline.
3. Depository Services
MCS Provides Depository services both for National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) and Central Depository Services (India) Limited (CDSL). MCS has 135 customers in NSDL and 100 customers in CDSL. MCS has installed its own Very Small Aperture Terminus (V-SAT). The growth rate of
Corporates joining the Depository is estimated at 50%.
Human Resources
MCS has a dedicated team of 144 executives who are experienced IT professionals, chartered accountants, company secretaries, law graduates and business administration graduates and 455 staff members. Apart from this, contract labor is hired when required currently being around 100 throughout the country.
Infrastructure
MCS is headquartered in Mumbai with offices situated in Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Pune. There is over 20,000
sqft. of office space in each of the first two metro cities with spare capacity to more than double their employee strength for future business expansion.
The four metro cities and Vadodara are connected via V-SAT link for fast and reliable transmission of data with 24-hour on-line services.
Founder of MCS
Mr. AAA is the founder of MCS and currently holds the position of Chairman and Managing Director. He is a computer professional with an MS Degree from Dartmouth College, USA. He held senior positions in reputed companies prior to starting his own venture. He has spent over three decades in this line of business and is known for his excellence and pioneering work in the field of public issues and Registrars and Share Transfer Agents.
He is a member of various security regulatory committees. He is the recipient of the Udyog Ratna Award in 1995 for outstanding service in the financial services industry.
